Our house is quite literally torn down the middle at the moment, which is really stifling my pre-holiday cheer. We have a very old house, built in 1912, and it has lots of character (aka problems). Here’s a picture of my neighborhood in the 1920s, when my house was new and not slowly sinking into the ground.
Basically, our chimney and the rest of our house are settling at different rates, which is creating a giant crack up our dining room wall. We’ve had a lot of very nice people out to look at it, but we don’t have a solution yet. For now, we’ve removed everything hanging on the wall and moved everything on the buffet in front of it, it just looks very bare and sad.
How do I deal with the sadness of one area of my house? I try to make another area extra nice! We’ve done some mega-furniture-rearranging and our living room is much more functional and open now. I’m excited to show you a couple of new things in the coming weeks! I also got to go to an amazing dried floral wreath workshop taught by Mellifera Flowers, and now the wreath I made is prominently displayed as well.
So in the spirit of creating a little joy where we can this time of year, let’s make some caramel corn! (It is SO much easier than you think and you’ll never pay $8 for a tiny bag of “gourmet” caramel corn again. Bring it to a holiday party, and you’ll win 100 best-person points.)
